Common Jezebel

The Delias butterflies are known as Jezebels. There are about 225 species. Most of them are gaudily patterned in red, yellow, black, and white. The colours serve to advertise to their upalateable nature to would-be predators. Most are in the islands in southeast Asia or the mountain ranges in New Guinea. Some live in broader ecological niches. 

Lebona Fairy Hairstreak

The Fairy Hairstreaks are an African Hypolycaena species. They have a distinguish orange median stripe on the underside and they have a white mark on the upperside hindwings as well as a hue of the metallic scale in the basal area of the upperside.

Monarch Butterfly

The Monarch only lives about 2-6 weeks as an adult, but the time frame for a butterfly’s life cycle is about 6-8 weeks. It will start as an egg, then caterpillar, chrysalis, and at last a butterfly.  It is a common poisonous butterfly. The eggs are hatched on a milkweed plant and in its larval stage it eats the plant which is poisonous.

Tiger Swallowtail

This is probably one of the most recognizable besides the Monarch. The Swallowtails get their name because they have long tails on their hind wings. Depending on where they live on what their colors are, but the male tiger have orange and blue spots near their tales.

Camberwell Beauty

This is the first butterfly that I will add to my collections. I used the name of this butterfly as a name for my beauty shop that I had in Lebanon, OR for 15 years; Camberwell Beauty Shop. It is a rare migrant to the British Isles. It’s wingspan is from 76 -88mm.
